When we are walking with the Lord, we can be sure that He will convict us and lead us along the path He has laid before us. It is a path that may include trials and battles, but we are not alone in our struggles. In the world today, our battles are many. Even when we believe we are living our lives in a manner that is pleasing to God, not all things we do or approve of are righteous in His eyes.
We may believe we have surrendered to God’s will, but unless we are walking in step with Him, we may be blinded by lies. We can surrender to these things without hesitation, justifying them in various ways. Sometimes, ironically, we even twist the very Word of God to suit our preferences. Paul warned of this in 2 Timothy 4:3–4, writing, “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”
Sometimes inaction is better than action when that action causes us to stumble. Moving forward is not always good if we are leaving God behind. Scripture teaches us to be patient and wait on the Lord. By doing so, we are able to discern God’s wisdom through the noise of a world that constantly urges us to do the opposite.
